Melbourne Spring Fashion Week

It’s Spring Fashion Week in Melbourne and as it comes to another close, I can’t help but wonder what environmental impact Fashion can have.
In the Melbourne Weekly (September 7, 2011) Lara McPherson was interviewed for Your Voice. Lara is a Melbourne girl interested in looking at fashion from an ethical and sustainable way. Lara says a lot of larger brands such as Country Road are starting to look at their supply chains and lower their carbon footprint but that most of the environmental impact actually occurs from us, the end user, through dry cleaning and washing.

Her tip for dry cleaning is Daisy Dry Cleaning, located Port Melbourne, Westfield Doncaster, South Yarra and Geelong. Daisy Dry Cleaning is a carbon neutral dry cleaner, with all detergent being biodegradable. Check them out: http://daisy.net.au/

Another interesting website for those fashionistas is http://www.ecofashionista.com.au/ here they provide information about local Australian and New Zealand labels, and their eco-friendly attributes.  Attributes such as Eco-conscious production, organic fabrics and locally sourced.

But keep an eye out… in our “Green Top 5” we shall be doing a feature on the 5 top Clothes Cleaning Products!
