Like The Heart Foundation Tick, The Sustainable “Tree” is meant to help consumers make better choices. The “Tree” is a self-funded sustainability program which aims to improve consumers’ choices about the products and services they choose. The Sustainable “Tree” standards focus on products and services that leave a minimal carbon foot print.
To earn the “Tree” companies and products are independently assessed to meet standards for their category using the GHG emissions assessment. These standards take into account the products life-cycle, from the research and development stage to the eventual discarding.
The aim is to alert consumers as to which products and services comply with our carbon emission standards; changing the demand towards more environmentally sustainable goods means that every consumer can choose to effect how companies produce products.
Note: Life-Cycle assessment takes a holistic view; assessing the environmental impact of raw material extraction, materials processing, manufacture, distribution, use, repair and maintenance, and disposal or recycling.
