Bring the kids along for some eco-friendly fun!
Running every week since 1979 the Collingwood Children's Farm is a not-for-profit community resource providing country experiences for city people. Recently it has become the perfect place for city slickers to get their weekly dose of the country farming lifestyle. The market gives farmers an opportunity to sell bring their own produce into a city atmosphere and sell to a wide variety of customers.
Children are encouraged to feed the animals, help the famers, pick their own produce & plant seeds in the veggie patch. The Collingwood Children's Farm represents everything we are about at the Green Tree Foundation, and we are proud to feature them on our blog and Facebook. The Farm encourages sustainability buy sourcing local produce, rather than importing interstate or from overseas. Another aspect of the market is the education it provides to our younger generation. The kids get out there and have a good time, but more importantly their learning about sustainability and living green.

The farm is open Open every day of the year. Visitors can milk the cow at 10am and 4pm, bottle feed young lambs, wander around, feed the animals, help with farm chores, go into the paddocks with the sheep and goats, cuddle a guinea pig, waddle with the ducks, feed the chooks, look for eggs or just sit and unwind under a shady tree or on the banks of the Yarra river.
One thing we learned when visiting the farm this weekend, was that all the stallholders are also the growers and makers, therefore they are happy to answer any questions about their practices. You can find everything from Mt Alexander Fruit Garden's Organic fruit to Holy Goat Cheese, based just east of Castlemaine!
Make sure to mark it down for next month... And for more information visit: http://www.farm.org.au/
